Features of replacing a light bulb in a spotlight

In spotlights, the bulbs are installed flush with the ceiling or other surface, so it can be difficult to replace. One easy option is to use duct tape. But due to a number of design features, this method may not work.

In this case, in order to change the lamp in one of the spotlights, you will have to disassemble them and remove the rings that are around the reflective surface. In addition, to replace a damaged light bulb, you should figure out which model is installed.

Varieties of light bulbs for ceiling lights

Several types of light bulbs can be installed in spotlights. They differ in the type of construction and voltage. During the replacement process, consider the following:

• type of plinth;
• voltage - 24, 12 or 200 V.

At a voltage of 12 V, you can use light bulbs that are not afraid of high humidity.They are installed in the kitchen, bathroom and other rooms where humidity is high. The type of base will depend on the types of fixtures, for example:

• GX53;
• E14;
• GU10;
• E27;
• GU5.3;
• GU4.

Luminaire design types

Spotlights are divided according to functionality, method of installation and adjustment. In the second case, they can be built-in, overhead and suspended. Overheads are most often installed on longboat bases - brick walls or a concrete ceiling. They are suitable if it is necessary to emphasize individual elements of the interior and not affect the dimensions of the room.

The design of the overhead luminaire includes a mounting platform, a diffuser and a housing. A feature of this type is the need to install a mounting plate over a hole smaller than the body itself. If this is not taken into account, it will not be covered by the ceiling. The housing should be fixed to the mounting platform. To do this, use the side screws.

Embedded models are installed on frame bases, these can be:

• wall niches;
• drywall constructions;
• furniture partitions;
• walls and slatted ceilings;
• stretch ceiling.

There are clamps and fasteners on the lamp body. No third party enhancements are required.For installation in the ceiling, it is necessary to prepare a hole in advance with wire entries.

Ceiling lights are mounted at a certain distance from the mounting surface. The lamp itself is hung on a supply decorative cable, which is fixed to the ceiling. It is not necessary to strengthen the structure with additional details.

But if it is a massive luminaire, it is recommended to additionally install mounting strips. They are usually made from metal or wood. Pendant lamps are mounted on any base, but in most cases they are used as a separate element of decor.

Lamp replacement step by step

The procedure for replacing a light bulb depends on the type of base. If we are talking about replacing devices with GU5.3, it happens as follows:

1. The first stage is a power outage. This will protect the master from electric shock, since the switch does not always turn off the phase wire.
2. If there is a decorative cover, it must be removed.
3. Press the locking bracket with your fingers for special "antennae". At this stage, you need to be careful, as the removed stopper sometimes slips out of your fingers.
4. Now the lamp will hang on the wire. Holding on to it, the light bulb must be removed from the base. It is important not to pull hard on the wire so as not to tear it off.
5. The last step is to assemble the structure in reverse order.

Sometimes the stopper does not get back into place. This can happen for two reasons. First - the lamp is not fully inserted. The second reason is that the ring does not fit the lamp. This happens if the master mixed them up, changing several lamps at the same time.

Replacement for GX53

The device resembles a tablet: it has a round shape and a matte white diffuser. In this case, the replacement process is simpler than in the previous version:

1. One hand should take hold of the flask.
2. The second hand holds the frame.
3. Next, turn the lamp counterclockwise by about 20 °.
4. Now the light bulb can be pulled out.
5. The new one is installed in reverse order. To do this, turn the lamp clockwise.

Pulling the base out of the cartridge is not necessary. The design is designed in such a way that the lamp can be removed without problems. It should also be easy to insert. The device is fixed by turning and inserting stops into a narrow opening.

How to replace bulbs with E14 and E27 sockets

In spotlights, such bulbs are much less common than pin ones. For replacement burned out lamp you need to unscrew and get it out of the lamp. After that, a new one is installed in its place. Depending on the type of luminaire, a retaining ring can be used as a threaded base or the luminaire can be removed directly from the ceiling.

On a drywall surface, the device is mounted using spring-loaded "paws". They are located opposite each other and separated on the sides due to the pressure created by the spring. During the replacement process, you should carefully pull the spot out of the ceiling surface in order to conveniently unscrew the lamp and install a new one.

Replacing fixtures in a stretch ceiling

In this case, the luminaire is mounted on mounting rings. The spot is held by spring legs that rest against the ring through the ceiling. To remove the device, you need to perform 2 steps:

• grab the ring in the ceiling with your hand;
• gently pull on the lamp body.

The springs will begin to compress, after which the stops will be released from the ring. The stops must be brought together so that they enter the ring on the ceiling. To avoid damage to the ceiling surface, do not pull hard on the housing. This is done with smooth movements. The wire leading to the cartridge is usually long, so it should not create resistance.

Removing a Broken or Stuck Light Bulb

If the lamp is damaged and stuck in a spotlight, it is not necessary to disassemble it. First of all, you should get rid of the remnants of the light bulb housing. The next step is to remove all the insides to get to the base.

Next, you need to take thin-nosed pliers and carefully bend the base from the lamp, after which it can be easily pulled out. Before this, it is important not to forget to turn off the power supply.

Conclusion

To replace the lamp in the lamp, it is not necessary to invite the master. To do this, you must determine the type of base and use the appropriate instructions. You should also be aware of some features of the socles, for example, the GU5.3 type does not work correctly with lamps with a power of more than 40 watts.
